Halloween Party (29-oct)

On 29th of October, the student guild organised the Halloween party of 2009 in the roundhouse. As the treasurer of the student guild, I participated in the party as the supervisor and the person selling the snacks/drinks. We decorated the roundhouse to fit the theme of Halloween, there were balloons blown up and spider webs placed on the curtains and the disco ball was set in the middle of the roundhouse. Outside the pizza was brought in and the drinks and snacks were neatly set on the table.
The party started at 6 30 exact and the music was and the party had started with people flooding into the roundhouse to enjoy the music. However, I was at the door standing to check whether the people had their strings on their wrists (an indication of that they had paid for their entry). It was a tiring job because it was hard to spot the strings which was hidden in the crowd of people. Along with that job, it was my responsibility to prevent people from bringing in snacks or drinks into the roundhouse.
As the chaotic situation became settled due to the progression of time, I proceeded to the the food booth where the helpers where having problem because of the massive crowd striving for pizza and drinks. I took incharge and started settling the problem the helpers were facing with the lack of coins available. Because the pizza was 70 baht, normally people paid with 100 baht which indicates that a 10baht coin and a 20baht was required for change. Thus I ran around the whole school to obtain more coins that can be used for change and after a while I obtained adequate quantity of 10 baht coins resolving the problem.
After the running around the school, I remained at the food stall despite the urge to go into the disco and enjoy the time with my friends. There were constant people coming to get more food and drinks and soon we were short of people. Yet, I didn't complain about the situation and tried my best to encounter the people with a friendly smile. I tried my best to be as polite as possible and worked my best to satisfy the kids' needs. This proceeded throughout most of the night and when there was not as many people as before, I shifted my place to the ticketing booth.
Spending some time giving out tickets to the people who had just arrived and monitoring the people going in, I soon realised the time had past 8 30 already. From the preparation at 4 30 straight after school, it was hard work just to set up the party and organise and I started to feel very tired. However, I realised that I this was the responsibility I had of being an executive of the student guild and soon I ignited the enthusiasm within me and proceeded to sell more food.
As I sat down waiting for the customers, I was retrospecting to the time where I attended the student guild and discussed about the Halloween party that we were going to host. The heated discussions that were made by the student guild members and the amount of ideas they poured into the meetings were amazing and being able to order the disco ball and ice, decorating the roundhouse, creating events for entertainment seemed like a huge accomplishment made by the student guild.
With all the preparation and diligent work in the party, we raised more than 32000 baht over one night and this made the record for raising the most money so far. When I was calculating the money we had -the treasurer's job- I saw the money as the sweat and effort put in by the student guild, including myself. Despite the hard work, I had enjoyed the party as much as the people who were attending the party and dancing in the roundhouse. However, the enjoyment was somewhat different from the people, where the people who were dancing had relieved their stress and were able to interact with their friends. But for me, this enjoyment was from the work the student guild had done at the behind and I was able to build the trust to the student guild. The party not only gave me more experience about the works of treasurer, but also taught me that if many people exert a lot of effort in a project, they are able to accomplish a spectacular result. And even in the chaotic situation of organisation of the party, I still managed to have some time to dance with my friends so there is no regret in any aspect of the party and I believe that this experience would allow me and the others to prepare an even better party where more people can enjoy.
