Jump Foundation - Leadership Training

As the Round Square conference was imminent, we were able to go to Koh chang with most of the people who were going to attend the RSC 2010. In Koh chang, as a steering committee member, I was facilitated by a group called JUMP. They were people who trained young students to encourage and build up leadership skills. Because I had seen Mr. Justin Bedard speak in confidence of his work, I was hoping to gain more experience and competence in leadership.

In Koh Chang, we were going over work shops for the whole day. Exciting games, Ice Breakers, reflections and group challenges; Every activity had it's value and teachings. It was very hard to assimilate every detail of the learnings we had; however through those activities I was able to learn various skills.

Firstly was the energy of motivation that could be conveyed to other people through me. When starting a group discussion or ice breaker, it was always good to show that I was ready for the exercise and that I was fully motivated. By doing so, I was able to deliver the energy I possessed to other people so that they could atleast absorb some of the energy I possessed. To have energised members was always and advantage to how the group discussions will occur.

Secondly I also learnt to have confidence in my work. Often I would think being humble is always a virtue but to be able to tell myself that I did a good job was one thing I learnt to do. It does not mean to boast, but the subtlely acknowledge the accomplishments I have made and to use this as encouragement to do better next time.

It wasn't easy to derive these kind of teachings; in the heat and the constant workshops we were doing. I made my physical and mental state to be worn out, but after the sessions, I was able to learn valuable lessons which I would not forget. I am glad to have attended this activity and that I will value the two teachings I had learnt from this experience.
