"WE WALK TOGETHER"
The three words I would never forget in my life. I have never thoroughly enjoyed a school event like this conference. It was a time where I put in immense effort and the level of accomplishment was apex. For this conference, we made conference aims which encompassed the general motive of the conference. But moreover I have had more personal aims which I wanted to achieve.
As a general aim, the steering committee has made several aims which were concerned with how we could deliver the conference legacy to the delegates that are from countries around the world.
As for my personal aims, I have thought of some like:
Public speaking, socialising with different ethnicities and people with different cultures and more confidence when meeting new people.
These aims were set for different reasons, firstly I have had problems with speaking in public. I have had the fear of making mistakes while speaking infront of people and this fear has caused me to be very reluctant to even speak in front of a small group. Thus I have set a goal to become more comfortable with such situations. Thus to achieve this goal I have set, I have decided to introduce one of the key note speakers on stage. Although I was reading off a script that was prepared, it was harder work than I have expected. The tone of my voice and the intonation of the reading were things which were very hard to correct. I have had a hard time correcting the normal speaking type I had, and tried to imitate eloquent public speakers so that I would be able to introduce the key note speaker even effectively. To overcome the dull monotone in my voice, I searched on youtube and saw the inauguration speech of Obama, the president of Obama.
From this speech I tried to imitate his posture, his eye contact and most of all the confidence which was shown in the speech the president gave. Thus I was able to introduce the journalist key not speaker well and without no mistakes after numerous practices.
To fulfill the other aim I had set for myself, to meet new people and learn different cultures, I have had encountered many people during the conference. Although I may have been busy at times and I was not able to get time like other delegates to socialise, however, I tried to spend as much time I could with others people and ask about their lives. It was great fun and to be more confident of who I was, I took pride in the nationality I was from and I tried to embrace the difference we had from each other. Learn more of people and appreciating the interesting parts of different cultures was done with ease because it was an aim I could do well and although limited time, I was able to make friends which I could not possibly forget.
As for the last aim I had intended to build up my confidence in the work I had to do. I may be confident infront of my friends, however, I am fundamentally a timid person. I am unable to be confident nor do I think of myself to possess talents which can entice people to take interest in me. With rather low self esteem, I have come to try and boost my confidence when I have to meet with other people. It is hard to overcome such personality of being timid, but by looking at my friend Amit, I have seen that taking confidence on stage and in his work has lead him to be our student steering committee and further the chairperson of the conference. I give high respects to him as he was a chairperson which no one could replace and from the opening speech he gave, I felt inspiration to take pride in who I am and what I am.
Thus from the conference I have been able to meet the objectives that were set: both as a steering committee and as an individual attending the conference to be inspired. I have had numerous opportunities build the skills I have set to endeavor to achieve and I consider myself to have taken these challenges and made a better benefit to me. I have assisted in the conference as well as more creatively displayed new skills I have learnt while learning the dance the steering committee performed.
We spent more than 15 hours just to practice the dance which was choreographed by Yeoi Shin and the ideas and the conference song that was used were all from the student steering committee making everything original. When making the conference song, the whole steering committee sang the conference song and I have not felt the fulfillment of trying something different from what I have always done.
The performance and the song itself were great inspirations within the conference and the contributions were significant to move not only the delegates, but ourselves as well.
