I have attended the chamber group in the school aiming to perform in the concerts. I played the first violin in the group and in order to increase my experience on stage, I took on this opportunity to be included in the musical performance. To perform in the christmas and summer concert, I went to lunch time practices every week and on the concert day, I was able to do a successful performance.
It was hard because I have always had the fear on stage. I have always been scared to perform infront of a large crowd of people. Often I would shake when I would perform on the violin and my hands would shake of frustration and anxiety. Not surprisingly, I experienced the same anxiety on the actual day of performance and I was not able to concentrate on the musical piece. All other sounds escaped my hearing and overall I was unsure of what to do.
I was able to overcome this by thinking positively. During the interval between the musical pieces, I took in a deep breath and regained my confidence. I told to myself that even the mistakes were part of the process of delivering the musical piece, and so I would try my best to express the emotions of this musical piece.
After this mind control, I was able to react to severe tense situations like going on the stage. I would take a deep breath and never hastily try to finish the task infront of a number of people. I can now calm myself down and reflect on my performance after giving me a better chance of demolishing the fear I have on going up on stage.
